The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum – Refurbishment of Display Case
The assistant curator of The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum in Salisbury contacted Access Displays in November 2017 as they were looking to have one of their museum display cases refurbished.
Brief
The assistant curator of The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum in Salisbury contacted Access Displays in November 2017 as they were looking to have one of their museum display cases refurbished.
“We have an existing display case in the museum that needs to be stripped of its current display (we would remove the barbed wire, mannequins, all objects and any removable items) and refurbished and relined so the case is suitable to display museum objects. Plaster of Paris has been used at the base of the display and paint for the walls.”
Carina, the assistant curator of the museum was looking to refresh the display case and give it a new lease of life in order to display museum objects. Access Displays visited the museum on 18th December to perform a site survey in order to plan the refurbishment, which was to be completed by the time the museum reopens in February 2018.
Access Displays proposed to remove the existing plaster and paint deposits and creating a new display lining using slat walling cut and fitted across the case back. The slat walling was to be painted with RAL5000 Matt as specified by the museum. These works were scheduled and completed 25th January 2018.
Testimonial
Dear Reg
Jason has just completed the case works and it looks great, exactly what we needed. The paint colour matched perfectly and the slatted wall finish will help us to install new displays easily.
A huge thank you to yourself and Jason for offering to do the works at the last minute and working so hard to get it all completed before opening. Thank you too to everyone at Access Displays for assisting with my enquiries. We shall definitely be using your services again in the future.
I plan to dress the case by the Easter holidays so I’ll send you pics when it’s done. In the meantime I’ve attached a before and after.
Thank you again for your help.
Carina, Assistant Curator at The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum
